Purehill Clay throws bowls, cups, and tall forms in stoneware. Book a planning visit when glaze and size need to match an existing set, or a mending visit when a favorite piece cracks.

If the deadline is firm, say so in the first line.

From recent bookings

The planning visit caught that my shelf depth needed a shorter vase. The new form sits without tipping.

Questions before you book

Stoneware with light grog for bowls and cups. Taller forms use a body that holds during drying.

Throwing and firing stay in Basel. Planning can start with photos of your shelf or table, then a short in-studio check.

Simple bowls take about twelve to sixteen days including two firings. Custom glaze trials may add a few days.

Bring a plate or cup you want to match, or shelf measurements. We keep glaze tiles for side-by-side comparison.

Stable cracks can take a copper fill visit. Pieces that are unsafe for food use are marked clearly before any repair.

Bring a piece from your set if you want glaze and rim height matched.

Studio habits

Leather-hard trimming waits until rims hold without collapsing.

Glaze tests are fired on the same clay body as the final piece.

We mark food-safe glazes separately from decorative exterior coats.

Kiln logs note cone and shelf so a refill glaze can be repeated.

Packing uses paper between pieces so glaze does not chip in transit.

Wet pieces stay covered loosely so drafts do not dry one side faster than the other.

A planning visit that brings shelf depth measurements saves a remake after the first firing.
